Montgomery, Alabama
The Montgomery Public School System has embarked on program to consolidate its campus footprint and integrate students into new and existing schools. To that end, JMR+H has been commissioned to expand the existing Carver High School originally designed by the firm in 2008. The expansion includes a new 400 student, 34,000 SF wing adding a 9th Grade Academy to the existing 10th – 12th campus. The project includes classrooms, laboratories, and administrative space to independently support a freshman class. The fabric of materials used in the original design was incorporated into the new wing as a seamless transition to the relatively new campus. Complete scope included sitework, architectural, structural, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and interior design. In addition, a new 20,000 SF Athletic Field House is added to the existing Football / Track practice field with complete locker rooms, study area, coaches’ offices, and weight room to support Varsity and Junior Varsity Athletics. Along with the new Field House, a new turf practice field and complete resurface of the existing track was incorporated into the new athletic building.

In 2018, the Armory Commission of Alabama engaged JMR+H Architecture to provide a Project Planning Document Charrette (PPDC) to prepare the documentation for validation and planning analysis for an Enlisted Barracks Transient Training Area in Anniston, Alabama. These projects are a component of the Real Property Master Plan (RPMP) to provide support to the Ft. McClellan Training Center. In 2019, the Armory Commission issued a contract for the JMR+H Group to provide construction documents and contract administration for the project.
This project consists of enlisted barracks, a transient training facility with a Battalion Headquarters, Company Supply / Administrative Buildings, Transient Training that supports annual training and inactive duty training for units conducting training at a location other than assigned home station (in other words, Reserve Component soldiers at annual training sites and Active Component soldiers training away from home station).
The enlisted barracks will be constructed to provide Fort McClellan Army National Guard Training Center (FM-ARNG TC) modern and efficient housing facilities to schedule for unit training activities. Additionally, this project delivers the necessary space to support a Battalion Headquarters element and Company Supply / Administrative buildings. Currently, units are scheduling annual training and inactive duty training periods at other locations because of a shortage of available space in these functional areas and the continued use of WWII wooden buildings is no longer practical or safe.
These facilities include: 59,735 SF Billeting Facilities; 12,412 SF of Dining Facilities; 7,166 SF Battalion Headquarters Facility; 20,555 SF Company Supply / Admin Facilities; 9,938 SF BN Maintenance Shelter Facility. The design of these facilities includes state of the art maintenance operations and equipment programing combining sustainable design practices and technologies. Exterior site components were integrated into the design to include storm retention, heavy-duty military paving design, Privately Owned Vehicle (POV) paving, vehicle barriers, and components as required for accommodating ATFP criteria.
