The second phase of the Birmingham Armed Forces Reserve Center is approximately 33,764 SF on the first level and 11,697 SF on the second level for a total of 45,461 SF. The facility includes two major components – a Special Forces Equipment Pool Facility and Readiness Center type facility that houses two Special Forces Units – Support Company 20th SFG and The Chemical (CML) Detachment. The Special Forces Equipment Pool Facility includes areas designated for maintaining Special Forces Airborne and Waterborne Operations equipment and supplies, including an SF Parachute Drying / Storage Tower, including POV & Military Parking.
Fort McClellan Armed Forces Readiness Center, Phases I and II
This facility included Administrative facilities for nine (9) units, a command suite, fully functional state-of-the-art Joint Operations Center, assembly hall, multiple classroom facilities with included AV storage and infrastructure, unit locker room facilities, unit storage facilities with secure mesh partition separations, fully functional maintenance training facility, POV Parking and Military Parking Achieved Spirit Silver Sustainable Design Goals. 2007 – Alabama National Guard Ft. McClellan Readiness Center Phase I, SPIRIT Silver.
This addition to the facility included: Administrative facilities for additional units, multiple classroom facilities, unit locker room facilities, and unit storage facilities with secure mesh partition separations. 2013 Phase II Alabama National Guard Ft. McClellan Readiness Center, LEED Silver.
Live Fire Shoot House (LFSH)
Cost: $5.3M Completion: 2016
This project entailed the construction of a new Hybrid Live Fire Shoot House Range as well as all of its accessory buildings on a 8.5 acre site collated with the recently completed Urban Assault Course at Fort McClellan. Buildings included:
Covered Mess Shelter- This 800 SF structure is used for tropp messing and staging as well as a weapons cleaning facility.
Ammunition Breakdown Building- This 240 SF structure is used to breakdown containerized small arms ammunition and to load magazines.
LFSH Mock- Up- Prior to entering the actual LFSH, troops complete the mock-up LFSH to familiarize with the building and proper live fire training.
Live Fire Shoot House Facility- The shoot house is a 6,024 SF network of twenty interconnected rooms and hallways on two split-level floors. The current design incorporates multiple breach holes for dynamic entry methods and an elevated catwalk where training staff can observe. The two roof levels support various training scenarios including rope exercise and helicopter operations.
After Action Review & Operations / Storage Building- This 1,736 SF structure is used as an instruction area for personnel to review training exercises.
Sniper Tower- This 200 Meter Sniper Tower provides target engagement of selected targets at the LFSH and downrange.
LFSH Flat Range- This 100 Meter Flat Firing Range features 14 firing ranges, firing positions, and target points for exercise and operations.
